What This Salary Revision Means for Higher Education in Pakistan:

This 35% pay revision is one of the most significant financial gestures toward TTS faculty in recent years. For Assistant Professors, the minimum salary has risen from Rs. 175,500 to Rs. 288,020, while Professors now start at a minimum of Rs. 407,230 instead of Rs. 394,875, with the maximum ceiling climbing to Rs. 712,030. These figures signal a genuine attempt to make academic careers in Pakistan more financially sustainable, especially for early- and mid-career researchers who often consider opportunities abroad.

However, the notification also places the financial burden squarely on individual universities, stating that the Federal Government will not assume additional liability for the revision. This means implementation will depend heavily on each university’s own budget and resource allocation, and faculty members may see variation in how quickly the new scales are rolled out across institutions.

For current TTS faculty, the memorandum clarifies that existing employees will be fitted into the new scale on a point-to-point basis, protecting their relative seniority within the pay structure. As universities begin implementing this notification, faculty associations and administrations alike will be watching closely to see how smoothly the transition unfolds, and whether it helps stem the ongoing exodus of qualified academics from Pakistan’s public sector universities.
