Conveyance Allowance Increased by 50% for Federal Civil Servants BPS-1 to BPS-22:
The Federal Government has approved a 50% revision in the monthly conveyance allowance for civil servants in BPS-1 to BPS-22. The revised conveyance allowance rates apply from 1 July 2026 under the existing terms and conditions.
What the New Allowance Rates Mean for Government Employees:
The Ministry of Finance has issued an Office Memorandum revising the conveyance allowance for federal civil servants in BPS-1 to BPS-22. Under the notification, the monthly allowance has been increased by 50% of the existing amount, with effect from 1 July 2026. The decision applies on the existing terms and conditions, so the notification changes the rates but does not, by itself, announce a new eligibility framework.
The revised schedule covers four groups: BPS-1 to BPS-4, BPS-5 to BPS-10, BPS-11 to BPS-15, and BPS-16 and above. The revised monthly amounts are Rs. 2,678, Rs. 2,898, Rs. 4,284, and Rs. 7,500 respectively. These figures replace the earlier monthly rates of Rs. 1,785, Rs. 1,932, Rs. 2,856, and Rs. 5,000. For employees, the practical impact will depend on payroll implementation by the relevant department. Accounts branches should apply the effective date stated in the memorandum and verify each employee’s pay scale before processing the revised amount. Any question about arrears, deductions, eligibility, or departmental exceptions should be referred to the competent finance or administrative authority. How Departments Should Apply the Revised Rates:
This notification delivers a straightforward change: the monthly conveyance allowance for covered federal civil servants has been increased by 50% over the existing amount. The rate schedule is clear, and the revised figures are tied to four BPS categories. Employees in BPS-1 to BPS-4 will move to Rs. 2,678 per month, while those in BPS-5 to BPS-10 will receive Rs. 2,898 per month under the stated framework. The revised rates for BPS-11 to BPS-15 and BPS-16 and above are Rs. 4,284 and Rs. 7,500 respectively.
The effective date is 1 July 2026. Departments should therefore review payroll records from that date, confirm the employee’s BPS classification, and ensure the correct rate is applied. The memorandum expressly retains the existing terms and conditions, which means readers should not assume that the notification removes prior eligibility requirements or automatically resolves every question about arrears. Implementation may require an internal payroll circular or clarification from the relevant accounts office.
Employees who believe the revised allowance has not been reflected should first contact their department’s administration or accounts branch with a copy of the memorandum. They should request a written explanation if the amount differs from the applicable BPS category. For accurate reporting, publishers should also distinguish between the approved rate revision and any separate decision about salary, special allowances, taxation, or arrears. This article is based on the supplied notification and should be read alongside the original Finance Division instructions and any later official clarification. The safest rule is simple: use the revised table, follow the existing conditions, and verify implementation through the authorized department.
