Sindh Government Announces Complete Ban on Plastic Bags – Key Details Inside:
In a major move towards environmental protection, the Government of Sindh has issued a strict notification imposing a complete ban on the manufacturing, stockpiling, sale, and usage of all types of plastic carrier and shopping bags across the province. The ban, effective from 15th June 2025, applies to non-degradable and oxo-degradable plastic bags of all weights and sizes.
This decision comes under the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules 2014 and the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reducing plastic pollution. No. SO(ECC&CDD)II-282/25: The Government of Sindh, invoking Sindh Prohibition of Non-degradable Plastic Products (Manufacturing, Sale & Usage) Rules 2014 and Section-14, sub-rule-3 of Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014, is pleased to impose complete ban on manufacturing, stockpiling, sales, and usage of all types (non-degradable and oxo-degradable) plastic carrier bags or shopping bags w.e.f 15th June, 2025.
AMENDMENT
In sub rule (5) of rule 3 entry No:1 of the Schedule of “The Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products (Manufacturing, Sale and Usage) Rules 2014” are amended with complete ban on all types, weights, and sizes of plastic carrier bags or shopping bags throughout Province with effect from sixty days after the date of approval from the Honorable Cabinet.
