Punjab Government Takes Preventive Measures to Ensure Public Safety:
In response to a political party’s planned protest across Punjab on February 8, 2025, the Government of Punjab, Home Department, has issued an immediate order imposing Section 144 across the province. This decision comes following concerns raised by the Provincial Intelligence Committee, citing potential threats from miscreants who may exploit the situation for subversive activities.
Given the recent wave of security threats and incidents of terrorism, the Punjab government has prohibited all forms of political assemblies, rallies, protests, and sit-ins to maintain public safety, law and order, and the security of vital installations. The order aims to prevent disturbance of public peace and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
Citizens are advised to comply with the directives and avoid any unlawful gatherings on the specified date. Strict legal action will be taken against violators. Please find the official notification below:

No. SO (IS-II)1-1/2004. WHEREAS, it has been reported that a political party has announced protest/ demonstration across Punjab on February 08, 2025. There is an apprehension that miscreants/mischief mongers can take advantage of the said protest to carry out subversive/anti state activities in order to fulfill their nefarious designs.
2. AND WHEREAS, Provincial Intelligence Committee in its meeting dated February 03, 2025, while reviewing law & order situation in the Punjab and in the back drop of present wave of incidents of terrorism recommended imposition of restrictions under section 144 of C.rP.C. 1898 on all kinds of political assemblies, gatherings, sits-in, rallies, demonstrations, jalsas, protests & such like other activities to ensure security of the people and installations / buildings against any potential terrorist or untoward activity, in the larger interest of public safety, security, peace and tranquility.
3. AND WHEREAS, there are sufficient grounds to proceed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, as an immediate prevention and speedy remedy, to prevent disturbance of public peace, safety of lives & property of public and tranquility in the Province of Punjab.
4. NOW THEREFORE, I, Secretary to the Government of the Punjab. Home Department, in exercise of powers under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 prohibits all kinds of political assemblies, gatherings, sits-in, rallies, demonstrations, jalsas, Protests & such like other activities across Punjab on February 08, 2025.
5. This Order shall be given wide publicity for information of general public through publication in the official Gazette, daily newspapers and broadcasting through the Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, Lahore, as news item.

The Punjab Home Department has reiterated that the imposition of Section 144 is a temporary preventive measure aimed at ensuring public peace and security. With increasing security concerns and the risk of law-and-order disruption, the government urges citizens to cooperate and adhere to the restrictions.
Law enforcement agencies across the province have been instructed to strictly enforce the ban on public gatherings, rallies, and protests. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
