Punjab Government Imposes Section 144 in Rawalpindi Division Ahead of Political Protest- Notification

ORDER

No. SO (IS-II)1-1/2004. WHEREAS, it has been reported that a political party has announced a protest/demonstration in district Rawalpindi on September 28, 2024. There is an apprehension that miscreants/mischief mongers can take advantage of the said protest to cony out subversive/ anti state activities in order to fulfill their nefarious designs. Deputy Commissioners, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal & Attack with reference to the said protest vide letters doted September 27, 2024 have requested to impose restrictions under section 144 of C.r.P.0 1898 on certain acts to maintain law & order situation in their districts.

2.         AND WHEREAS, in view of the facts stated above, it is essential to ensure security of the people and installations / buildings against any potential threat or untoward activity, in the larger interest of public safety, security, peace and tranquility and to avoid any untoward incident.

3.         AND WHEREAS, there are sufficient grounds to proceed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 1898, to prevent disturbance of public peace, safety of lives & property of public and tranquility in the said districts.

4.         NOW THEREFORE, Government of the Punjab, in exercise of powers vested under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 1898, hereby, prohibits following acts in districts Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attack on September 28 & 29, 2024:

1. All kinds of political assemblies, gatherings, sits-in, rallies, demonstrations, jalsas, Protests 8 such like other activities.
2. Carrying/ displaying of any kind of weapon except personnel of LEAs.

5.       This Order shall he given wide publicity for information of general pubic through publication in the official Gazette, daily newspapers and broadcasting through the Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, Lahore, as news item.
