PMDC Increases Faculty Age Limit in Private Medical and Dental Colleges:
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), headquartered in Islamabad, has announced a significant policy change regarding the age limit for faculty members in private medical and dental colleges across the country. According to Notification No. F-87.Faculty-2025/343, issued on January 20, 2025, the Council has decided to raise the upper age limit for faculty members from 70 to 75 years. This change comes in response to discussions and decisions made during the 12th meeting of the PMDC, which was held on January 5, 2025. This policy shift is expected to have a profound impact on the recruitment and retention of experienced educators within the medical and dental education sector in Pakistan.
By extending the age limit, the PMDC aims to retain experienced faculty members who have spent many years contributing to the education and training of future medical professionals. This decision reflects the Council’s acknowledgment of the value that experienced faculty bring to the academic environment, especially in the context of private medical and dental institutions. With this move, faculty members who have reached the age of 70 and still possess the requisite skills and passion for teaching will now be able to continue their contributions to the academic community for an additional five years.. Conclusion:
The increase in the age limit for faculty members in private medical and dental colleges, as mandated by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), is a timely and thoughtful decision aimed at bolstering the strength of medical education in the country. By extending the upper age limit from 70 to 75 years, the Council ensures that experienced educators can continue to impart their valuable knowledge and expertise to medical students for a longer period. This policy is particularly beneficial in the context of private institutions, where the experience and proficiency of faculty members are essential for maintaining high educational standards.
This change also addresses the challenges faced by private colleges in retaining highly skilled faculty members, many of whom have accumulated years of experience in the medical field and possess invaluable knowledge. By extending their service age, the PMDC helps these institutions benefit from their continued involvement in shaping the next generation of medical professionals.
Ultimately, this decision is a step forward in ensuring that Pakistan’s medical and dental education system remains robust, experienced, and capable of meeting the growing needs of the healthcare sector. The increased age limit not only safeguards the academic quality but also fosters an environment where seasoned professionals can mentor young students, ultimately contributing to the advancement of medical education in Pakistan.
