Punjab Government Proposes College Merger to Optimize Resources:

The Government of Punjab’s Higher Education Department has taken another step towards educational reform by proposing the merger of Government Associate College of Commerce, Township, Lahore with Government Graduate College (Boys), Township, Lahore. This initiative aligns with the recent policy of merging 45 commerce colleges operating in rented buildings with low student enrollment into nearby institutions to ensure efficient use of government resources.

Key Highlights of the Proposal:

✅ Govt. Associate College of Commerce, Township currently operates on 27 Kanals 8 Marla of land
✅ The college has only 60 enrolled students despite a faculty of 15 regular teachers
✅ The merger aims to reduce financial burden and ensure better resource allocation
✅ The existing building is proposed to be repurposed as an Artificial Intelligence Hub

The Directorate of Education (Colleges), Lahore Division has forwarded this recommendation to the Higher Education Department, Punjab, for final approval. If implemented, this initiative will not only enhance educational opportunities for students but also pave the way for technological advancements by setting up an AI Hub. Notification Describes;

SUBJECT:             MERGER OF GOVT. ASSOCITE COLLEGE OF COMMERCE TOWNSHIP WITH GOVT. GRADUATE COLLEGE TOWNSHIP, LAHORE,

                              Govt. of the Punjab, Higher Education Department, Lahore has recently merged 45 Commerce colleges running in rental buildings and meager enrollment of students, with the nearby colleges, in the larger interest of colleges and students.

2.                           Your Kindly attention is invited to the fact that Govt. Associate College of Commerce, Township is presently functional in its own building (27-Kanals 8-marla) with enrollment of 60-students only, 15 number of regular teaching staff, 01 Director Physical Education and 05 non-teaching staff. The same is causing huge drain on financial resources of the Govt. and violates the cannons of financial propriety.

3.                           Foregoing above, it is proposed that Govt. Associate College of Commerce, Township may be merged with the Govt. Graduate College (Boys), Township Lahore which is adjacent with it for optimum utilization of the Govt. resources and this building may be used for Artificial Intelligence Hub.
