Punjab Schools to Establish School Management Councils Under New SMC Policy 2024:
The Government of Punjab’s School Education Department has officially notified the School Management Councils (SMCs) Policy 2024, making it mandatory for all public schools across the province to establish SMCs. This initiative aims to enhance school governance, transparency, and community participation in educational development.
As per the policy, each School Management Council must consist of at least ten (10) members, including representatives from parents, teachers, and the local community. The objective is to create a collaborative environment where stakeholders actively participate in decision-making, ensuring better management and quality education for students.
The Chief Executive Officers (DEAs) of all districts in Punjab have been directed to submit compliance reports by February 20, 2025. The Punjab Government has emphasized that this matter holds top priority, and any delay in compliance will not be tolerated. Please find the official notification below:

SUBJECT: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FORMULTATION OF SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COUNCILS (SMCs) AS PER SMC POLICY, 2024.
I am directed to refer to the above captioned subject.
2.                    I am further directed to inform you that School Education Department, Government of the Punjab, has notified School Management Councils (SMCs) Policy, 2024. As per the new policy, it is mandatory to formulate / constitute School Management Councils in all public schools across the Punjab falling under your respective jurisdiction. Serial No. 6 of the Notification deals with Composition of School Management Councils (SMCs) required to be formulated in each district. The composition of SMCs shall be comprised not fewer than ten (10) members as outlined in the SMCs invariably including representation from Parents. Teachers and Community Members.
3.                    It is, therefore, requested that compliance report of the actions taken in the matter with regard to formulation / constitution of SMCs in your respective districts, be furnished to this Department on or before Thursday i.e. 20.02.2025.
4.                    Matter may be assigned TOP-PRIORITY.
