KPK Education Department Issues New Guidelines for Ethical & Co-Curricular Activities in Schools:
The Directorate of Elementary & Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an important notification aimed at enhancing co-curricular activities and ethical development in educational institutions. Recognizing that learning goes beyond textbooks, the department has outlined several initiatives to encourage holistic student development through observation, practice, and hands-on experiences.
According to the directive, all heads of government schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including merged districts, must implement these measures to promote moral values, reading habits, and cultural awareness among students. Key highlights of the new policy include:
Daily school assemblies to include recitation of Darood Sharif three times after Quranic verses, followed by the National Anthem.
Ensuring school libraries are stocked with newspapers and books to foster reading habits.
Holding Bazm-e-Adab, cultural activities, and Quranic studies during the last period every Saturday.
Displaying Quranic verses and Sunnah teachings in appropriate locations within school premises.
Encouraging tree plantation activities, linking them with Islamic teachings on environmental responsibility.
These initiatives aim to instill discipline, knowledge, and ethical awareness among students while fostering a deeper connection to cultural and religious values. Please find the notification:

SUBJECT: Enhanced Implementation of Co-Curricular Activities and Ethical Development in Educational Institutions
Memo:
I am directed to refer to the subject mentioned above and to state that Learning can occur in various ways, including through observation, practice, instruction and hands on experience. It encompasses acquiring knowledge, skills, behavior and attitudes that can be remembered and applied in different contexts. Schools can facilitate effective learning by engaging students through a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles.
In this regard, you are required to direct all heads of government institutions/schools to observe the following guidelines in letter and spirit:
Instruct and motivate students to engage in tree plantation, highlighting the Islamic perspective on environmental stewardship and the benefits that trees and plants provide to humanity and all living beings.
During assembly, after recitation of few verses from the Holy Quran, three times Darood Sharif should be recited, followed by the National Anthem.
Heads of schools should ensure that libraries are arranged with newspapers and other books, as these resources can significantly enhance students’ reading habits.
Bazm-e-Adab, cultural activities, Quranic studies, and teachings of Allama Iqbal should be conducted during the last period of every Saturday in each class, and the class teacher will be responsible for overseeing this regularly.
Quranic Verses with translation and Sunnah should be inscribed on walls and banners in safe places within school premises to enhance the moral character of students.
