No. DD(PR)2-3/2024DIRECTORATE GENERALINDUSTRIES, PRICES, WEIGHTS &MEASURES, PUNJAB Dated Lahore, the 20th May, 2024 To Subject: REDUCTION IN THE PRICES OF BREAD (DOUBLE ROTI) AND OTHERS BAKERY ITEMS I am directed to refer to the subject noted above and to state that the prices of wheat and wheat flour have decreased considerably in the open market. This reduction, however, is not being translated into the reduction of prices of bakery items, especially double roti. It is pertinent to mention here that the bread (double roti) and products made from atta and maida have been included in the list of essential commodities in the Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Ordinance 2023. The Deputy Commissioners, therefore, have full powers to regulate the prices of such items. In order to provide relief to the general public in view of the drastic reduction in the prices of wheat and atta, it is recommended that the Deputy Commissioners may hold consultations with stakeholders including bakery associations, and fix prices of bread (double roti) and, if deemed necessary, any other bakery items made of wheat or maida, at rates significantly lower than current prevailing rates of such items.
